LAB LE JEU

Crow's Feet Physical Theatre has been rehearsing in various almost free locations for years.  This week I took the plunge and rented a warehouse in the west end of the city.  Warehouses in the west ends of cities are often the homes of great theatre....so I'm in good company!

We have been so very lucky to be joined by senior and accomplished artists Natasha Danchenko and Mark Segal, and we are hopeful "PAZ" Karl Pasternak will also join the team under the direction of Ginette Mohr for Defiant Requiem.

The warehouse helps to serve so many community purposes, it allows the Pilates practice to keep going and growing to support existing and loyal clients, and it's going to house a training facility for aspiring Circus Artists.  Classes in both recreational and pre-professional streams training young people in movement technique, le jeu ( theatrical play) and aerial skills.   For professional adult performers European style clowning classes will be offered.  Our method promises to create triple and quadruple threat Circus students who by their high school graduation should be ready for theatre schools like the very well respected Humber College Theatre programme  or the Ecole Nationale du Cirque.

The Studio and it's classes are sometimes open to the public, as are Crow's Feet's rehearsals. We'll post our rehearsal times once we open our doors.  Serving the community through circus and physical theatre, as well as the sound and time tested Pilates Method of movement education is at the top of our mandate.

My own work with circuses in the past, my training in the LeCoq technique of physical theatre, and my recent work in the Russian style of clown have inspired me to open LAB LE JEU in the hopes that I and my accomplished team can make strong and well trained young performers ready for the new contemporary world of circus.

We'll open our doors September 1, 2013.

This Little Light

Here's a sneak listen to the song that Michael White interpreted for our show!

I'm so touched and pleased and overwhelmed by how this sounds....he recorded it in the middle of the night last night so I could have a listen.

Our show is up in lights at the theatre, and we had our first newspaper interviews today.

With six weeks till the show, this piece is finally done, and now we need to smooth it out...ALOT. It's been the toughest one to create and get in shape for.....

Michael White was the original singer for Motley Crue. His is the lead singer for Michael White and the White, a popular Led Zeppelin Cover band. He has composed music for movies, and is an active Artist in Schools. He has volunteered his time for 25 days to sing....

The Dying Swan is a solo created by Michel Fokine for Anna Pavlova, one of the last centuries greatest dramatic ballerinas. Pavlova never achieved great fame with any particular company, and was physically not built for the art of Ballet, but made her fame by travelling worldwide in her own productions. The solo is not to be confused with Swan Lake, the Ballet, they are distinct and separate artistic projects. She is said never to have danced the solo the same way twice. She wore a massive ruby broach in the centre of her costume to signify the gun shot which killed her swan, and sometimes would re create the moment of the gun shot about six barres into the music. We chose smoking over gun violence in our solo.....

Anna Pavlova died at the early age of 50, her last words were said to have been-"prepare my swan costume". She was buried in it.

Lisa Brkich, of "Two Sisters Dance Project", the Sugar Plum Fairy, a Sylph and Kitri from Don Quixote.

Maria Fernandez danced for Ballet Pilipino. She's the mother of two boys, and is playing the "dying swan", and one of the sylphs.

We've begun rehearsing the "Corpse de Ballet" section of our show...where ballerinas are at odds with eachother, smoke, drink, fight etc....

our feet are killin' us!
